False Shuffling in a Poker Game

There are many ways in which a cheater in a poker game can mislead the other players in order to turn the game more to his advantage. One way of doing so is by using the technique of False Shuffling.

There are about four ways in which false shuffling is done. The first way is by keeping on the bottom, the bottom card. At a good opportunity, a poker cheater would be able to have a look at the very last card in the deck or the bottom card. Once he has done this, he will then deal in such a way that he keeps that last card steady at the bottom all the time, which is usually done by means of interlocking the card shuffle wherein the deck of cards is usually separated into two halves being shuffled together in a way that the cards interlock.

This would ensure that the half bit with the right bottom card is put down first, and that card then stays down. Such a trick is used a lot when the cheating player would anticipate a bottom dealing of cards. The second way of doing this false shuffling technique is by means of shuffling the last card onto the top of the deck of cards, wherein, during the right moment, the cheater will look at the last card located at the bottom of the deck and will then shuffle the said card so that it goes to the top of the deck.

This is usually performed with the use of what we call undercut shuffling, which is done by holding a large part of a deck of cards by the player's left hand, as the player's other hand starts pulling away certain parts of the cards and begins to shuffle them out on towards the top part of the deck a certain amount of times. This type of cheat is often used by a player who is anticipating second dealings or the dealing of extra cards. The third way is by shuffling to keep a single card or more undisturbed and kept at the top part of the deck.

This trick is often useful when the cheater knows what card the top card is and is planning to have a second deal or to deal more cards. The fourth cheating strategy is of shuffling is by stacking the deck, wherein such an act would require a great sleight of hand skill and ability.

Because more experienced cheats do this, it is most unlikely that this type of cheat would be done just in a table with small stakes as the skill to be able to do this type of shuffling cheat is greater as compared to the others. When one stacks the deck, he manipulates the card positions in the deck while he shuffles. If this is done properly, it would certainly allow the dealer to deal a specific hand to himself.

One should certainly be aware of this type of cheating when at a game and take such cheating activities seriously.
