Lawyers Agree To Freeze Golds Prize MoneyThe lawyers of Jamie Gold, the recent winner of the World Series of Poker, have agreed to a court injunction freezing $6 million, half of the $12 million prize for winning. The injunction came in light of a lawsuit filed against Gold by a colleague who claims that he has the right to half of the money. Bruce Leyser claims that he and Gold had a verbal agreement to split the prize money. According to him, they had made a bargain where he would bring in celebrities and he would get half of Gold's winnings as payment. Richard Schonfeld, the lawyer for plaintiff Bruce Crispin Leyser, said that U.S. district court judge Roger L. Hunt is expected to sign the order soon. "Everybody agreed the preliminary injunction would be issued," Schonfeld said Tuesday. The injunction would keep Gold from claiming the money, which will not leave the poker tournament's host, the Rio Hotel-Casino in Las Vegas, until the case is closed. Gold has until Sept. 15 to contest the injunction. Bodog was responsible for paying for Gold's $10,000 entry fee, and was also the label that Gold helped out with the celebrity appearances. The company said that it was not aware "of any side deal he may have made." |
